Since returning from the Great Vacation in mid June, Flynn & Ollie have managed to get around Western WA on a few different occasions.
First off was a day trip to Ocean Shores, notorious for a nice, big sandy beach (not so common in WA). It is filled with the usual ‘beach tourist’ activities including horseback beach riding, electric bike rentals, dune-buggy type rentals, sunbathing, ocean swimming, and fishing. It has a plethora of overpriced seasonal beach stores where one can buy windbreakers, ice cream, toffee, made-in-China souvenirs, kites, kites, and more kites.
Ocean Shores has one casino-hotel off the main drag. The Quinault Beach Resort is quite the nice place to stay if one is interested in romance. Rooms (pay extra, get beachfront) have fireplaces and have unobstructed views. The casino is the usual small town type: small, smokey even though they have a no-smoking section, and the promotions cater to those who frequent it ~ the locals. They closed the poker room, so F&O have no real reason to patronize it, but they do miss the rooms there. Anyway,..
Here are the obligatory pix of their daytrip:
As you can see, Panda was a guest that day. Panda is very photogenic. Flynn, Ollie, and Panda all frolicked in the ocean, got sandy, wet, and dirty. It was a beautiful day at the beach.
Next up was a 2 night/3 day trip via RV to Sequim. F&O stayed at the John Wayne Resort right on the water. This turned out to be a great choice, as the RV park was well kept and in a great location. During this visit, they visited the Olympic Game Farm, as well as Hurricane Ridge. It should be noted that F&O have been to Hurricane Ridge on a previous occasion ~ two years ago on the opening day when there was (no exaggeration) 5+ feet of snow still on the mountain. This time: no snow, walk-able trails, and some actual flowers. While there they met fellow poker aficionado and pro Christina Read (@chrisreadpoker) and her son Matt. We had a nice chat on the trail, and wish her the best with her poker career. You can follow her in more depth on Facebook. (As faithful followers know, F&O do not partake in the FB).
Here are the obligatory pictures of this trip:
An excellent time was had by birds and mammals during this short excursion. We realize this is not a drunken poker trip, which are often far more entertaining, but F&O hope you enjoy nature as well as quality rum.
