Early December 2022
It would be close to the truth to say that, yes, Flynn and Ollie did fall off the face of the earth for a few months. Even on Twitter the posts have been far and few between as they have escaped the zoo and begun their life on the lam. This is a short post to catch our faithful readers up and more will follow as they see fit.
After selling the sticks & bricks in June, F&O moved into their rolling condo to finish out their respective employments before hitting the retirement road. They holed up in a local NW RV resort for a couple of months while Ollie finished work, then ‘moved’ to a Las Vegas RV resort to finish out other business until recently. Flynn couch-surfed for a month in WA to finish saving the world – thank goodness for the best neighbors ever – while Ollie took care of logistics in LV and South Dakota (don’t ask). For those of you who have the impression that #RVlife is glamourous, think again. Living in a rolling structure is an adventure, not a luxury. It shall be Ollie’s responsibility to give you the nitty-gritty deets, but they involve broken A/C (in Vegas in Sept), a non-working oven, Flynn Navy-seal crawling through the belly of the rig, broke Karl (the truck), and of course the perpetual struggle to find wi-fi solutions. Hint: Verizon unlimited data is a lie.
Don’t get Flynn wrong, nothing gives you such a feeling as jettisoning 90% of your belongings and your entire mortgage payment. There is no lawn to mow, no roof to de-moss, 1/20th of the floors to sweep, and the freedom to get the heck outta wherever the weather is annoying you whenever you darn-well please. Sure, you could do the same in a car, and stay in hotels, but this way you don’t ever have to pack a suitcase. It’s your own bed/sheets, your own toilet and good coffee every morning.
After retiring, Flynn spent the month of November in Las Vegas also taking care of business. Legitimate business and poker business. The first mission was to grind out the rest of the hours needed to maintain his MGM gold status. This was his first experience at poker for ‘work’, and while he did attain his hours, he was not profitable at “the pokers”. Not enough to kill his bankroll allotment, but close. Blame it on variance, blame it on Flynn, blame it on game selection (1/3 instead of 2/5), who knows? Frankly, he is glad to be done with the must-play-poker and move on to the want-to-play-poker phase.
While in LV, F&O were given the opportunity to experience the Charity Series of Poker (CSOP). If you locals have not partaken in these monthly tournaments, you are seriously missing out. They are not unreasonably priced, they are well-attended, for a cause, well-run, and are a LOT of fun. F&O have attended (and run) several charity tournaments previously, and highly recommend this venue. We are very much looking forward to attending more in the future when we get back (and maybe doing some volunteering too).
During our stint in LV, Flynn also managed to get some additional star-studded photos, including the dashing Patrik Antonius, Lucky You movie star Matt Savage, and wicked good poker player Lexy Gavin. Check that page for updates, cause that is the most popular page on this site. Flynn is so photogenic!
As of yesterday, the bird and otter have departed Sin City for parts unknown. There will be more travel, less poker, but plenty of op ed blogs about all things cards. Ideas abound, and with them comes the urge to put font to internet.

I’m sure Flynn and I will see each other again when our paths inevitably cross in Las Vegas over the next year. 😃
