A quick summary of the places we F&O were stuck eating while spending 2.5 days in Las Vegas on the strip without a car. Do you feel sorry for us? This was a ‘budget friendly’ attempt. Excepting Wynn, excepting fast food, excepting Walgreens… Okay, F&O eat what they want, when they want. It shows.

Chayo mexican: located at the Linq promenade so it’s good if one happens to be centrally located on the strip. F&O had breakfast there and it was nearly deserted at 10 am. F&O also had a Groupon, which makes it reasonable for Strip standards if one avoids purchasing adult beverages. The food was quite good and not all the standard fare. Plenty of it. Watch what you order if you don’t care for spicy. Since it’s Mexican food, a lot of the menu is on the zingy side. Would F & O eat there again? Yup, with the Groupon, for breakfast, without the drinks. Absolutely. Except for Flynn getting evicted off the bull…

Dirt Dog: Located in the Bally’s Grand Bazaar shops. It’s cheap (for Vegas) @ $10/dog, and the dogs are delicious unless you don’t like bacon, hot dogs, meat, cheese, bread or other necessities. Flynn is partial to the Elote Dog. You cannot eat these while walking, so be prepared to find seating on the sidewalk. Get extra napkins. Don’t forget the fork and knife. Eat there again? Yup.

IstanbulĀ Mediterranean: Also located in the Bally’s Grand Bazaar shops. Open most of the night/into the early morning, making it a feasible and reasonable place to grab food to take back to your room or poker seat if you are center strip. It’s not the best gyro we have ever eaten, but not the worst, and the price is right. They also care about what they are serving, so there is that. Eat there again? Sure ~ if necessary. Wouldn’t go out of the way, but if convenient…

Wynn Buffet: Pretty sure you can figure out where this is located. If not, google it. Flynn and Ollie absolutely enjoyed this buffet ~ it had quality food, and a good selection. The price of this buffet is not as high as some of the others (think Caesar’s) which makes it a great choice if one wants a fancy buffet. Their seafood was okay, there was not a great sushi selection, but other than those snivels, everything was at least 8 out of 10. F & O just can’t put away enough food to make a high cost buffet worth it, but this could happen again. Oh, snivel #2 what where F&O were sat ~ which was at a table basically in the center hallway. Next time they will ask for a side room. Eat there again: Sure, if the occasion calls for it.

Mon Ami Gabi French: Located on the strip at Paris. This is F&O’s favorite go-to place for people watching. Slip the host a sawbuck and smile, & tell them you are willing to wait for a table on the outside rail. Frankly, the best meal there is breakfast. Get there early, your wait for the perfect table will not be long, and the food will make you sing. Eat there again: Most assuredly. Hopefully soon.

Poker rooms – the food:

Orleans: No table-side food, so he settled for fast food court. Sbarro or something. Meh.

Bellagio: Table-side, expensive, better than average, but not worth the bucks unless one is on a heater. So unmemorable that neither Flynn nor Ollie remember what they had. Bring your own or see what you have for comps.

Venetian: From the Grand Lux Cafe table-side. Worth it, almost anything your order is good. Service is great. If Flynn plays there again, he likely will eat there again. Reasonable prices, comps rule. Mushroom omelette!

Aria: Lemongrass or the natural burger joint table-side. Both are good, both are on the high $ side. Poker comps may cover part of your tab. BTW, the turkey burger is good.

In summary, F&O did not stray outta the commercial strip area. There were more pix of food, but due to heavy intoxication or just stupidity, the pixels are too large to download, and the thingamajig won’t twiddle-dee to reduce the farfenwagen. Also, we just had our I.T. guy (bless your heart JW) fix this laptop, and we don’t want to mess with it cause we break stuff all the time.

Florida travels up next, folks!

  1. Haven’t eaten at the Wynn buffet in years. Perhaps next trip. There are, to my knowledge, no good buffet values on th Strip. Caesars Bacchanal and the Wicked Spoon are the best high end.

My favorite Strip guilty pleasure: having breakfast at the counter of the Denny’s next to Casino Royale and watching the crew cook and serve a packed restaurant. They do quite a job!
