Yes, this is a bit late, but tough luck. And, it’s been so long, and so many drinks ago, that Flynn barely remembers what he did this day.
No doubt he drank coffee and wrote a blog in the morning before heading to the Bellagio to play (again) some 2/5. Ollie went with him. Ollie was the smart one, and put his name on the 1/3 list as well, so he was seated right away. He also crushed the game.
Flynn had to wait and wait and wait for a 2/5 game ~ for a couple/three hours. He got breakfast/lunch with comps for himself and Ollie (club sandwich from Snax is best bang for the buck). Shocker: There is a shortage of poker dealers. When the new batch of staff arrived for their shift, he was finally seated at a new game. Ollie joined him. Not much happened. There were some ‘1/3 type’ players there – meaning off the cuff, no real strategy players, and Flynn couldn’t get traction. Ollie also joined the new game (welcome Ollie!) and used the profits from 1/3 to freeroll the 2/5. They were able to play about 3 hours before heading off for the final dinner in the city. Flynn was down about 50 bucks, and Ollie.. well, down a bit more than that but still in the black for the day.
Dinner was at Chicago Joe’s, a real local’s joint, in downtown LV. F&O had considered a ‘fancy’ dinner somewhere, but there were no reservations to be had (they tried a few days prior) at any place they had an interest in. Chicago Joe’s had availability, and good food at good prices. If you want to check it out, be forewarned that it is simple, rustic food, with killer bread. Also, the do not have a deep fryer, so if you order chicken or eggplant parmesan or whatever, it will not be breaded.
After dinner, they headed up the strip to take one last look after dark. Flynn flew out of the car back at the Bellagio, Ollie went on to the Orleans to get in some more O8. You would have to ask Ollie how he did, cause it’s not Flynn’s business to be in Ollie’s bankroll. Flynn however, booked a (wait for it) loss! What? Rats! Okay, over the course of his 2/5 attempts he ended up ahead this trip, so this was not tragic, but it was a bummer anyway. The critters were in bed by midnight (yes, on a Friday night in Vegas).
The following morning, they packed up and headed out. It was a long 11 hour drive to Yreka, where they spent the night in the highest-rated hotel in town. They got the last room available (within 100 miles of their target location) which was a luxurious suite with a spa tub booked 4 days prior. It was not cheap (supply vs demand). This highest rated hotel was a Super 8, folks. Not to dis on Super 8, or those that stay there, but having just left the Vdara…. Needless to say, they didn’t use the tub.
F&O didn’t dally the next morning. They fled NoCal, and made it home to the beautiful NW and the beloved Mr, Jones. It was only 107 degrees in the South Sound, and F&O can’t figure out what all the complaining is about.
Las Vegas peeps, we will see you in October. For our followers, keep reading the nonsense we put out!
