Bleck. To summarize the day, Flynn lost $ both places he played. First at PH, and second at Bellagio. Flynn knows this is normal, as poker is a fickle mistress. However, if this keeps up, he will be busted in 3 days and have to spend all his time holed up in his room watching Law & Order.
Planet Hollywood: The memory of the losing itself is fuzzy for the fuzzy bird. Just couldn’t catch cards, and when he did enter a pot, was second best. Flynn did something he rarely does: switched tables, The first table held no interesting characters; he tried mixing it up, taking down pots when opportunity seemed right, et al, but to no avail. The play there was such that if you didn’t have the nuts, you didn’t win the pot. Obviously Flynn didn’t catch the nuts there.
The second table was much more chill. The players were interesting, and the play was of the norm – with some drunk 22 year-olds, some semi-regulars, and the humans were conversing with each other. The cards did not change for the Flynn-ster, but the atmosphere did. He did actually win a few pots, but eventually his pitiful stack went to the dark side, and the fun folks split.
Weird Character on Flynn’s left (Flynn has a stealth pix, but that would be mean): Older guy, long bleached blond hair, sunglasses, gold chain bracelet who Flynn thinks of as ex-rocker-dude didn’t speak to a soul for an hour. Out of nowhere, a much younger female has pulled up a chair and is sitting behind him. Each time Flynn made eye contact she smiled seductively. Okay, by her style of dress & mannerisms she is clearly a woman of a certain profession. She and ex-rocker-dude have a quiet conversation for a short time which Flynn was not interested in, as he was busy losing his chips. 10 minutes later she was gone. Ex-rocker-dude remains quiet for another hour until he suddenly starts talking and talking and talking. To Flynn only. Some sort of bizarre story about how he knew her from the gym, had no interest in dating her, saw her walking by and waved to say hello, she told him she was broke, out of the kindness of his heart he gave her a hundred, she said that was not enough and wanted six-hundred, and he told her to get lost. He repeated this story about 4 times, then morphed into some story about a corvette, losing the corvette, walking and taking busses through the desert for 2 years to punish himself… Flynn is not really sure where this ended up. First and foremost, the crazy loud music near the poker room at PH makes convo difficult, and a close second is that ex-rocker-dude was all over the place and difficult to track. Just Flynn’s cup of tea!
Cool character: Erika, a professional collegiate female basketball ref from the east coast, gave Flynn some good advice about moving up in stakes and was charming to converse with. It was a pleasure meeting her, and we hope to run into her again this trip. Flynn sent her to the mix-game at the Sahara.
Flynn got tired of losing, and decided to cut and run. He meandered over to the Bellagio, where he found 3 crisp 100 dollar bills on the ground by some slot machines. He asked the players around there if they had lost the $, which they all denied. Flynn put the $ in his pocket and hit the poker room. The game there was straightforward. Flynn liked the mix at the table, the ebb and flow of action was predictable. There were no overly interesting characters there, however, it was fun watching the first timer play (non-English speaking). She was adorable, but of course lost badly and left with her rail after an hour. There was one drinker, and the rest were pretty much semi-regular players. Flynn managed to eek out about 5-6 hours of play there on one buy-in before he had to give it up. He cashed out the few measly chips he had left and hit the road to pick up Ollie who was playing at the Orleans.
For those of you who have no clue about Flynn’s true character, he debated briefly keeping the found $300 , but of course he just . can’t . do . that. He turned it in to security (they were astounded). Please, please, please let karma be a real thing!

I swear that poker has gotten more difficult over the past couple of years. Hopefully Flynn gets some playable hands today. 😀
