Up and at ’em before noon. Flynn meandered over to the Bellagio bright and early (11 am) to feel out the list for 2/5 (gulp) as he was feeling frustrated by the no-fold-em hold-em that was the norm in 1/3. It was time to move up for sure and dip the toes in the deeper water. He was immediately seated at a new game, which was the intent (so his max buy-in would not be the short stack), and off he went. Within 30 minutes, this was the result:

More than the initial buy in!

The 2/5 game was better than the 1/3 games Flynn had been playing. The cards were no different, but the bet sizing and general play was a combo of scary and a relief. Hard to describe it when most hands are pre-flop raised to $20/25+. There is absolutely more skill needed, rather than luck, at this game. Flynn was fortunate to have a ‘nice’ table (no wackos), and took a huge pot early on to ease his transition into the new stakes. Don’t let this fool you into thinking he crushed it, however. He did not. Flynn went card dead, wiffed a few flops with good cards, and 2 hours later called down and folded after the river when he flopped the world but missed. Flynn cashed out a hundo ahead, and went to meet Ollie for lunch. A profit is a profit.

Lunch was at 2pm ish at Jessie Rae BBQ, which was doing a bang up business. Seriously folks, go there. It is a hole in the wall, the staff are friendly and the bbq is awesome. They gave F&O a bag of ice to keep the leftovers from spoiling in the car, and off F&O went to Freemont street.

Parking at the Golden Nugget is free if you get validated, although this day they were waving people through without charging. F&O have seen this before. Flynn thinks they only charge when the mood strikes them, as in when they expect to be busy and they want to keep out the riff raff. Anyway, F&O did a quickie tour of Circa before hitting the GN poker room.

Circa sportsbook – see the scale? Crazy!

F&O got seated at two different 1/2 tables at the GN. Ollie had a nice win. Flynn ended up down a whopping $13 because he couldn’t help himself. Had to be one of the lamest 1/2 NL games he has ever experienced, which was quite unusual for the GN – often a crazy loose place to play. New strategy: Flynn opted not to look at his cards pre-flop or post-flop for the 2nd hour he played. Lame, but kept him awake. Of course, he didn’t share his strategy with his opponents, who didn’t even notice. 2 hours later they cashed out, and hit Freemont for a walk down to Freemont East just to see what is new. Nothing major is new.

Freemont

Home, nosh the leftovers, watch some poker vlogs, and hit the sack early. A perfect day in LV.

  1. Glad Flynn found some success in $2/$5. Playing $1/$2 and $1/$3 type games can be so frustrating at times. In AZ, which does not have NL games, I’ve been having more recent success at the 2-100 ($2 blinds, $100 max raise) games. Some people just continue to burn hundred dollar bills.
