Yes, the writers have been a little behind. The short story about Paris was very time consuming, so the second half of Flynn and Ollie’s Poker escapades fell to the bottom of the list. Here goes:
Flynn & Ollie played a bunch of poker. There was cash game poker (1/3 NL), tournament poker, and drunk poker. There was good food, and fun people.
Ollie and Flynn both played one of the WSOP 4pm Deep Stacks. Flynn bubbled it 6 hours later (why he is not a fan of tournaments), Ollie cashed that bitch. So yea, Ollie adds to his Hendon Mob stats. Flynn has nothing. While Ollie ground it out for another 2 hours to his payout, Flynn played in the cash games @ the Rio. There was a profit involved, but if memory serves, it was a pittance and did not cover the tourney buy-in. What is remarkable is that was the FIRST time either Flynn or Ollie has ever played a cash game in the convention center, despite them going to LV and hanging about the Amazon room (or is that Brazila?) for hours on end. Opinion, you ask? Well, the chairs reeked from so many butts in them for weeks on end. It was okay, but not as good as playing in a real poker room with better F&B options, better chairs, better tables. Would Flynn do it again? Only if he were waiting on Ollie again.
Ollie played in a tournament at Golden Nugget the following day, but sadly did not make the $. While he was hanging out in yet another banquet room, Flynn dallied a bit, then jumped in the 1/3 in the real GN poker room and totally crushed it. Flynn ran that heater hard enough to make the table hate him, then cashed out 45 minutes later when Ollie busted. Boom. Too bad those results don’t count for Hendon Mob. BTW, PokerNews, Flynn really enjoyed your history of them. Thanks.
Naturally, Flynn and Ollie had to do a little touring. A trip to the Bellagio conservatory is a must every single trip, along with a stroll inside the Venetian (they are going there to play anyway). Flynn really loves to ham it up! He is also good at making friends.
If anyone remembers drunk poker, please fill us in. Flynn is pretty sure he made a huge profit. He is an optimist. F&O met some cool new people, and certainly irritated 2 or 3 locals who did not appreciate having their tight 2/4 limit game taken over by fun-loving, happy, and just ever-so-slightly inebriated participants. They ran into Paul Campbell from Aria poker fame, and while he was not at the official drunk poker table, we are sure he was feeling no pain. (Yikes, we hope he didn’t play hookie that day.) F&O would also like to thank the South Point Poker Room staff for accommodating their antics ~ we hope the alcohol stains and odor came out of the felt and off the chips eventually. Ollie had a little mishap!
Shortly after drunk poker, (as in the next day) Ollie left for home and Flynn was on his own at 1/3 NL games. He traveled the strip, usually landing at the Venetian, Caesars, Mirage, or the Aria. For the first time in a few L.V. visits, he booked a nice poker profit overall, which is good for the ego and to keep interest in poker alive.
A quick note about the men seen above: There was a group of cowboys playing at the Mirage ~ 4 or 5 of them all at the same table. They were from Canada, and were legit 100% real cowboys. They owned ranches on the border of the US of A and had been friends for decades, growing up together, working together, playing poker together, and weathering the ups and downs of the (stock) market together. None of them were young men, and as life is known to do: one of their group had fallen terminally ill. The friends all pitched in, and brought him to the LV strip to take the bull by the horns and live it up while he still could. They booked suites, ate good, played for hours and enjoyed each other’s company. They even invited Flynn to go to dinner with them (Flynn declined). One can only hope we all have such good friends!
There is not a whole lot more to tell about Vegas. F&O went to a mining town where they had a burger and watched a live band at the Pioneer Saloon. They found a new favorite restaurant (EAT), went to their favorite steak joint Echo & Rig, and of course hit up Roma Deli so they could contribute to the Todd Brunson bankroll. Flynn tried to start a game at Table 1 at the Aria, but everyone was either at Bobby’s room or too chicken to take him on. Go figure.
Since Flynn has fried far too many brain cells since June and cannot remember much else, we shall call this a wrap. Stay tuned for more Las Vegas antics come October, when drunk poker will again make an appearance. Oct 22nd, to be exact. Be there or be square.
