Flynn and Ollie stopped in the Spirit Mountain Casino (Oregon) on our way elsewhere to check it out. We had played there often several years ago, as it was a fun getaway for the bird to stay in the reasonably priced hotel and get in some cards. This time we were just passing through, and thought we may be able to spend some time playing poker there the following night after our trip.
First impressions of the poker room were pretty awesome. They had moved it to the non-smoking (new) section of the casino, and the decor was nice – blue hues and clean. We checked in with the floor to make sure they would be running the games we prefer, and to find out what time the next evening would be our best chance to get seated without a tedious wait or short-handed game. They run 3/6 limit , 1/3 nl, and 2/5 nl. Perfect.
The next evening we make the trek to the room for some fun and relaxation. Meh. The games were going, we got seated without a long wait, and all seemed well. That is, until one really began thinking about what was happening there.
Bitch: They are (still) taking the small blind as a drop pre-flop, which means no chopping ever.
Bitch: They do not allow cellphone usage (texting, games, etc) while you have cards. No, really. You can’t even put your device on the rail while they are being dealt out ~ or at any time. Now, Flynn is all for enforcing paying attention during the hand you are in – but, for heaven’s sake ~ this feathered critter need to put it somewhere, and the rail is the obvious place since flamingos don’t have pockets!
Whine: No chargers at the tables. Did a remodel, and no chargers? Okay, I guess we will call this a retro-room…
Whine: Service was super slow. Food cost, if you didn’t have comps, was at full rate.
Whine: The staff, overall, was not friendly. They were not rude either. But, if you want my small blind pre-flop every time, then at least make me feel like my business is appreciated. It matters.
How’d F & O do? Well, O walked out with some extra change, F walked out a little lighter. We will call it even. Lest our faithful readers think this is a total complaint session, it was nice to see Wass again, and the physical environment was appealing.
