zzzz in the RV. Is this all he does?

Okay, here is a quick update for our loyal readers:

In Reno/Sparks, NV, all powered up with plenty of G, Flynn and Ollie began thinking about the logistics of step 2 of their trip – off to Coarsegold to visit family and friends, go on a dinner train ride, try a SUP for the first time, and generally enjoy the mountains with the cat.  Mr. Jones had settled nicely into the RV / truck-riding life.  No drama there, he slept soundly in the RV when the humans left him alone, pounced on them in bed at night, and slept in the truck when moving campsites.  Typical feline.

zzzzz in the truck

Thinking forward even more, Flynn did a quick check on the weather forecast.  Did ya’ll see that giant red flag smack bang in your face?  Not necessarily the weather in the Sierras, but the weather in our favorite destination 6 days later – Las Vegas.   OMG, what sins are you folks committing down there to bring this upon yourselves in June?   Curses.   F&O are in an RV (older-ish) model, with a cat.     Yes, they have a temp sensor to remotely check that all is well inside the RV,  yes, the RV has an air conditioner, but truth be told, there is just no way the cat-handlers would risk the health of their precious Jonsie by leaving him all day in LV while they sat in the air-conditioned poker room at the Aria, drinking cold adult beverages.   Yes, Jonsie did survive the alien and made it home alive with Ripley, but F&O wouldn’t risk another of his lives in 115 degree conditions.

New plan after much discussion.   Haul the RV and Mr. Jones back home.  Yes, all the way home.   Drop them off, beg and plead with the best neighbors ever to cat-sit, drive the boring car to Coarsegold (3 days late), and then to LV where they will stay in a hotel.   Believe you Flynn, every other option was explored, including just staying in or returning to Reno, going home then flying to LV, and every option in between.   Nothing worked out.  Have you seen the price of rental cars in LV these days?  F&O were planning on being there 7+ days, so no way to be there without a car.   How else would we get to Echo & Rig, the Legacy Club @ Circa, and maybe Roma Deli?  Since Ubers and taxis no longer function efficiently, options are limited these days.  Fortunately for the bird and otter, they still had not cancelled previously made reservations at Vdara (made months ago during Covid times), so they had a killer deal on a room.   Whew! <- (F&O are experts at LV).

Back home they went, spending one night mid-Oregon as they trudged northbound.  They took a photo of Mt Shasta on their way.  It was pouring as they approached the nest, unpacked, did laundry, repacked, and 1.5 days later (date of this posting) were back on the road, sans feline nor RV.

Did we mention yet another change in plans?   Oh, yeah, stuff happens, and it was decided by unanimous vote to visit the Oakland/Alameda area rather than the Coarsegold area.    Therefore, back down Interstate 5, passing the same sights they passed 2 days ago.   Lovely drive really.  Here is Mt Shasta from southbound, just in case you missed it above.

Shasta SB – two days later

F&O have stopped in Red Bluff for the night, staying in a hotel (weird).    It’s nice, but it is not their home away from home.  The current plan is to hit LV on Thursday morning.    The way things have been going, it’s a crapshoot.    <- Vegas pun.

GL to F&O.  Still no idea what day it is.
