The past two days have been a whirlwind. So much so that F & O are having difficulty keeping track of what day it is, how long we have been here, and what we did the day before. Ollie says this is what vacations are supposed to be, Flynn says it’s because there has been too much wine.

Monday was another Amalfi day, wandering around town, adding another margherita pizza to the growing stack for the #UPCW (see Ejacks twitter for updates). Supplies were purchased for home cooking, Flynnn chatted up a bunch of store owners, and generally meandering. There were clams and wine too (obviously).

The following day, F & O went off to Pompeii for a 1/2 day tour. It is approximately an hour’s drive from Atrani, half of which is along the coast. Upon arrival, controlled chaos ensues. This place is packed (despite the downpour). A thousand buses, vans & cars, along with many thousands of humans make this place a zoo. Originally, Flynn was frustrated with having to stay with a tour group, but turns out the experienced local tour guide had it down pat. Who knew?

Pompeii is a pretty cool place, if you are not dodging school children, umbrellas and mud puddles. Ollie was totally in his element, and had a fabulous time splashing around, rock hounding. Flynn showed off for the docents. There were not many staff around, just in places that needed ‘guarding’ from dumb-humans who would not follow the rules, such as the bordello where no flash is allowed, etc. Soon enough, the skies cleared, we got away from the amphitheater and theater (yes, two different places, in the latter Pink Floyd played there a few years ago), and made our way to villas, bordellos, some side streets, the central square, and so forth.

Frankly, one would have to ask Ollie or Bigfokkerdog what all these places are, as Flynn has already forgotten details of each place. (Too much wine).

It turns out that some of Pompeii has not yet been excavated. About 25% of it is still under dirt. (Some weird random fact that Flynn remembers, dunno why). Near the end of the tour, F & O had fun observing the archaeologists working diligently (meaning very very slowly and carefully) to recover more ruins. Flynn supervised,

A bus ride back concluded the trip to Pompeii. Nothing erupted. Coastal traffic is so very convoluted, especially when one is sitting inside a giant bus. But, that is a story for another day. Back to the casa, for more wine.
