To be fair, it didn’t start out horribly. Flynn & Ollie played at The Poker Oasis on the 7th, Sunday: the game of choice this time was a bounty tournament. The turnout was awesome and a great time was had by all. This was made even better by a 2-way chop for 1st/2nd between Flynn and his worthy opponent, “C”. So, for tournaments, Flynn is 100% cashing statistic-wise. If you haven’t been informed, Ollie, on the other hand, is killing it in tournaments, having cashed or bounty-freerolled about 80% of his entries in the past month. Crazy. He has been mostly playing at South Point, for those that dare to take him on.

The editor is going to make this short and sweet. The following eight (8) sessions were unmitigated disasters, epic failures, catastrophic. The majority of them were played at either Aria, Bellagio, or Wynn, with the most recent two sessions being played at South Point to change things up. Nothing changed. Flynn is broke-ass-broke. The bankroll has been decimated. He has been defeated. In a mere 8 sessions he went from his all-time high profit / hour to almost busto.

How did this happen? Should Flynn blame this on bad luck, variance, bad play, or the poker gods being vindictive? Jeff Platt didn’t interview Flynn, he didn’t leave his shopping cart in the middle of the parking lot, or cut anyone off in traffic despite wanting to badly. Therefore, he shall rule out karma as a cause. The only pattern discernable amongst these sessions was; a) being card dead during all of them b) not being able to hit a flop with the 1% of really good hands he did get and c) losing HUGE pots and winning the tiny ones. Most buy-ins were lost in one or two hands, not slowly chipping down. To be as honest as possible, 70% of the big pots were lost when our opponents hit a 4-outter or less on the river against Flynn’s made hands. The other 30% were maybe bad calls or betting out with made hands against ‘statistically unlikely’ holdings by our opponents. Clearly, Flynn’s reading abilities need some work. F*&^.

This about sums it up.

The last session played through this article was on Jan 14th, 2024, at the SouthPoint, so noted so the editor does not lose track.

Where does this leave Flynn, other than hating poker and broke? Even Flynn doesn’t know the answer.

The Chiefs won, so there is that.
