Flynn and Ollie hope you have been keeping up with our weekly reports.  Lots of poker and travel going on here.  If you don’t read this regularly you will be way behind the times.    April Fools!

Yeah yeah, we know it has been a hot minute since we published an article. Question:  Why?  Answer: Life and Stuff.

Quick catch up:  Flynn & Ollie left LV the end of February and sadly poker never got better.   Flynn quit playing the last few weeks in town as he is not insane by definition and got on with his other project: real life.   By no means is he done with the game, but it is going to be a while before he gets back on the felt due to upcoming travels and work (which includes travel).   For those of you who read this publication strictly for the poker content, do not fear, we are sure to publish some controversial op-ed at some point in the next few months.   I mean, who doesn’t want to weigh in on whether the WSOP should cut the under $1k events? (Short version: Stupidest idea ever, elitest, and exclusionary – yeah, just what poker needs.)

The editor was fortunate enough to spend a birthday in LV this year.   No expensive strip restaurants, high heels or short skirts, no clubbing, and no excessive alcohol involved.   Just cool local attractions, and friends.

Instead of playing poker, F&O got to experience being unpaid labor (and conning their friends into it as well) by starting a video project.  Ho hum, you say?   Everyone does it, you say?   Vloggers vloggers everywhere, you say?    Well, considering Flynn and Ollie started this project from scratch with zero knowledge, and it is not a vlog, the work involved has been fun, frustrating, and intense.

First off, let’s start with frustrating:  This video project was 100% Flynn’s idea.  He took it to several casinos and discussed it with several casino employees, players, dealers, and some big-wigs who were cc’d on it.   The mega-corps legal departments all denied our filming requests, which seems very counter-productive for them despite every single poker room manager being on board. Yet ALL OF A SUDDEN, the idea of this video, and the need for it, spread like wildfire.   Other venues (TwitterX, the internet, training sites, etc.) began discussions about the topic.   One training site has even preempted our idea by putting our script on-line in their own (written only) format. Low.  Now, Flynn and Ollie do not ‘own’ this idea, and what is good for poker is good for poker, no matter, but still, how rude?

Undeterred and on to fun: F&O were fortunate enough to land the South Point as a venue and began filming with their unpaid labor friends.   This took 3 different sessions, pancakes, and most excellent assistance from the South Point poker-room staff.  Writing scene shots, execution of the same, filming, photography, and directing were all a hoot.

Bringing us to intense: Ollie is head of video and video editor.   Cool beans, except he has had to learn video editing software from scratch.  Flynn is head audio, so same-same with audio software.  This takes a huge amount of concentration, all self-taught, and if Flynn puts it down for a week all is forgotten and he must re-learn it.    Obviously the key is to work on it daily, however, as unpaid labor F&O are just not in the mood.  And they have lives.

The month of March has been spent in central CA, the Sierra.  There have been trips to Yosemite, as well as local hikes and time spent with family.    Later this week it is time to hit the road for South Dakota and start a new project: paid labor.    The trip north should be fun – sarcasm– cause it will be c o l d.   Guess we better stock up on propane, eh?    Being homeless is hard sometimes: what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and all that dribble. Oh wait, the optomists call these ‘adventures’.

Here are some valleys we have visted:

Valley of Fire
Death Valley
Yosemite Valley

We may or may not keep you posted, cause we do what we want.   Oh yeah, we scored some more celeb pix while we were in SinCity.  Check it out.

    1. So glad you asked! On the Menu, select “Star Photos”. Most are of famous poker players, but there are others near the bottom of the gallery as well.
